In October 2020, MobilizeTO contacted Michael Poland from the Treaty team. In November and December, our group spoke to Stand.earth Safe Cities coordinator, and Seth Klein.  Folowing those meetings, in December, a presentation was made at one of Toronto Climate Action Network's (TCAN) meetings, followed by an invitation to TCAN members to participate in a planning meeting. Initial response was slow, but MobilizeTO continued to push forward trying to get groups to support the Treaty.

On October 2nd, 2019, Toronto City Council passed a climate emergency declaration and committed to accelerated action in this Council term.  City of Toronto city staff will release a new report in Q4 that will show how Toronto gets to net-zero by 2050 and see if they can speed up to get to net-zero by 2040.

On March 21, 2109 members of MobilizeTO met with Michael Layton, to discuss the possibility of Toronto declaring a Climate Emergency. Councillor Layton, who had recently made a motion to align TransformTo targets for reduction of greenhouse gases, with those of the IPCC from 80% to 100% by 2050, with a 50% reduction by 2030). On an equity basis, (Toronto being 0.03% of global population) we have already exceeded our part of the carbon budget and passed the emissions threshold for 1.5 degrees.

In early January 2019, MobilizeTO sent another letter with the signature of more groups: ClimateFast, Toronto Environmental Alliance, Climate Action Now!, Pax Christi, Toronto Pale Blue Dot, The Leap, and Toronto350 to all the City of Toronto Councillors
